posted 04/10/2008 If you are in the market for a new non-wood bat for your 6-12-year-old, please be aware of a new Little League rule that goes into effect in 2009:
"Beginning with the 2009 season, non-wood bats used in divisions of Little League (league age 12 years old and younger) shall be printed with a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.15 or less."
In addition, Little League rules state that the barrel of the bat should be no more than 2 1/4" and no more than 33 inches in length.
NOTE: If you are purchasing a bat for the Babe Ruth level (age 13-16), the maximum barrel diameter is 2 5/8". Little League bats are allowed in Babe Ruth; however, you will probably not want to use one at that level, as the ball does not travel as far with the longer, thinner barrels.
