2022 SYB Volunteer Program

Salem Youth Baseball relies on volunteers to keep this program running. To ensure that everyone contributes to the volunteer hours which are necessary to run the league the following volunteer program has been implemented in Salem Youth Baseball. In addition to mandatory participation in Tag Day or Calendar Sales, each family will be responsible for fulfilling 4 hours of volunteer service for the first player, and 2 hours for each additional player in the family.  A check or other form of $125 per player or $200 per family, will be required to be submitted to Salem Youth Baseball at tryouts or before the player’s uniform will be handed out.  This fee will cover both Tag Day/Calendar Sales requirements and Volunteer hours.  Volunteer hours will be available as follows;

Game Day Volunteer Hours

  • Official Scorekeeper - 1 parent 2 hours credit per game
    • Ability to follow game and keep track of each pitch.  Score, Ball/Strike, Outs and innings must be kept on current on scoreboards at Michele Park.  Volunteer must pick up scoreboard system at the concession stand and return after the game.  This will also be how you check in for your volunteer hours.  Home team is allowed first option to assign a scorekeeper.

Concession Stand Volunteer Hours

We will attempt to run our concession stand as much as possible with our volunteers;

  • Shifts in the stand will be available for sign ups via signupgenius once we open the stand.  Each (1) hour you volunteer in the concession stand will result in a 1 hour credit towards your required volunteer hours.
    • 1/2 parents to work cash register, clean and stock, as needed and 1/2 parents to sign up as Chef to help cook chicken fingers, Burgers, Hot Dogs.  Clean up, bathroom and trash duty for all volunteers.

 

Various Volunteer Duties

  • Field clean up days
  • Grass cutting (inquire for available times)
  • Umpiring
  • Foul weather field clean up assistance
  • Team game day field prep
  • Special Event assistance, ie; Tag Day, Opening Day, Fisher Cats game, Championship Night, etc.

Buyout

  • Busy schedule and cannot help us out with volunteer hours this season?  We offer a $125 buyout option for the first child and $200 per family and you will not be required to complete the volunteer hours.  We do, however, ask that you please have your child participate in Tag Day/Calendar sales if you can.

All volunteer hours will be assigned on a First Come First Served basis.  Sign up quickly to ensure you get slots that work best for you.

 

**CHECKS WILL BE HELD UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON OR DESTROYED IF VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS ARE MET.  THE CHECKS WILL BE DEPOSITED IMMEDIATELY IF YOU SKIP TAG DAY/CALENDAR SALE.  ALL OTHER CHECKS WILL BE DEPOSITED IF VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT MET**

Due to the endless hours committed to our program by our Managers, Coaches and Board Members, the Volunteer requirement is waived for these individuals.
